To build a truly resilient grid, it is important to leverage both grid-scale and customer-sited resources. Critical infrastructure microgrids and community-level master-metered neighborhoods demonstrate how resources across the grid—both centralized and distributed—can be coordinated to strengthen overall grid reliability. When entire communities are able to produce power independent from the grid to meet their critical needs during emergencies, not only are they more resilient, but they support broader system resilience by allowing utilities to prioritize differently during outages. This session will highlight strategies, frameworks, and projects that integrate DER to maximize resilience benefits for utilities, communities, and stakeholders.
